Klassik am Odeonsplatz – Munich's largest concert hall

26.07.2019

On the 20th and 21st of July the Odeonsplatz turned into the largest classical concert hall in Munich. About 16,000 listeners enjoyed the two sold-out concerts of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the “Bayerischer Rundfunk” in a fantastic setting.

This year, the world-famous soprano Renée Fleming was guest at the Symphony Orchestra of the Bayerischer Rundfunk. Together with the conductor Alan Gilbert a programme around Peter I. Tchaikovsky was presented. In the second evening of the Classic Open Air the Munich Philharmonic offered an impressive listening experience under the direction of its conductor Valery Gergiev, together with the star pianist Daniil Trifonow.

The Odeonsplatz is located in the centre of Munich between the districts Altstadt-Lehel and Maxvorstadt. With a length of 175 meters and a width of 50 meters, it is part of the axis Ludwigsstraße – Siegestor. The impressive square bears its name since 1827, given by Ludwig l because of the then-popular concert hall “Odeon” which was built on the southwest side and was destroyed in World War II. Since 2002, the Feldherrenhalle on the south side of the Odeonsplatz has become an annual orchestra podium.

More than 80 people spent around six days working for the realization of this event. 96 microphones, 162 loudspeakers, 130 amplifiers and our electronic room acoustics system VIVACE provided together with Neumann & Müller a touching and highly musical listening experience.
